Transforming Data
Introduction
In TRIOS, transformations are operations that can be executed on data files at the file and/or step level to generate a new data file with the converted data. TRIOS differentiates between 2 types of transformations:
- Rheological transformations. These include all linear and non-linear viscoelastic transformations. See Rheological Transformations for information on the various transformations available.
- General data file conversions. These include merging, splitting data files as well as extracting specific data points. See General Data File Transformations for more information.
Performing a Transformation
There are two ways to perform a transformation: using the File Manager, or using the Transform menu (Rheology only).
Transformations Using the File Manager
Follow the procedure below to perform a transformation on all appropriate steps in a data file using the File Manager:
- Open the desired data file in the File Manager.
- Select the data file you desire to transform. You can transform an entire file or one step from the data file. Note that the file does not have to be opened in the document window.
- Right-click on the data file and select Transformations from the drop-down menu. A list of possible transformations appears. Only the transformations possible for the selected data file are shown.
- Click the desired transformation to perform the operation. A new data file with the same name extended by the name of the transformation is created and added to the file list. The new file is opened and given focus if Load view settings is checked in the user options.
Transformations Using Transform Menu (Rheology Only)
Follow the procedure below to perform a transformation on a single step of a data file selected in the document view using the Transform menu:
- In the document view, select the data file step you desire to transform.
- If you wish to perform a partial transform, select the curve section by clicking the first data point and dragging the mouse pointer along the curve. The selected curve segment is highlighted.
- Select the Analysis tab > Transform drop-down menu. A list of possible transformations appears. Only the transformations possible for the selected data file are shown.
- Click the desired transformation to perform the operation. A new data file with the same name extended by the name of the transformation is created and added to the file list. The new file is opens and gives focus if Load view settings is checked in the user options.
Rheological Transformations
Detailed information on the rheological transformations are given in Rheological Transformations. Rheological transformations use:
- Model data such as the continuous and discrete relaxation, i.e. retardation to obtain oscillation variables (G’, G”, etc.), relaxation modulus, viscosity and normal stress coefficient, memory function, compliance, or
- Experimental oscillation data to obtain non linear steady state viscosity and normal stress coefficient. When the transformation is executed on a multistep data file, all the oscillation data steps are transformed. Transformations can also performed on a file step only.
